Helping students prepare for their future is certainly one of our critical tasks as educators. And while gaining new knowledge and occupational skills is pretty important, creating a vision of who you are and what you want to become is pretty essential.
I found this website, Rocket21, on eSchoolNews and thought it would be really useful for helping students create that vision. The service is free (it's in beta test) and consists of interviews with numerous practitioners and experts in a wide range of occupations - architects to zoologist. There are also a variety of activities, challenges, and contests. The video below explains a bit about the program (use this link if the embedded video doesn't work).
I think this is a great complement to the Career Cruising site that students have access to. That site has a ton of carefully researched data on occupations - like salaries, employment outlook, educational requirements. Rocket21 interviews would be a great companion for students to hear from a current practitioner.
The target age is "young teens", so this may be mostly applicable to freshman & sophomore audiences. Nonetheless, some of the material may be very appropriate for junior or senior audiences.
There's link for educators and for parents.
Love this!!!! I hope Karl and Dan find it useful!
