Chrome Extensions & Apps to Make your Work Easier

There are, quite literally, thousands of free apps and browser extensions you can install in the chrome browser that will make many ordinary, everyday tasks - the ones we do a dozen times a day - easier, faster, and simpler.  Saves you time and effort and with time a precious and scarce commodity it's worth it to try them out.

Ever want to share a website, a document URL, or web-based video with students, but the URL is a big pile of inscrutable characters.  You can shorten it to something much more manageable using GOO.GL.  Shorten Me is a chrome extension that accesses the goo.gl utility, automatically copies the shortened URL to the clipboard, and generates a QR code.

Copy & Paste is a convenient mainstay when composing messages or documents, but one drawback is that you can only store one text stream at a time.  Pastey is a chrome extension which allows you to store many separate text blocks and paste them later into any document or message.  What if you needed to have several text blocks available at once.  You might want to capture several different clips from a web page to incorporate in a document or message.  With conventional copy & paste, you have to toggle back and forth between the web page and the document.

Open Microsoft Office documents directly in your chrome browser without the hassle of downloading.  When you click on a  Word or PowerPoint attachment in a mail message or on a website, you have to download the file, go find it on the computer, double-click to open, wait for Word or PowerPoint to start and open it up, then read it.  The chrome Office Viewer is an extension that will automatically display any office documents you click on within the browser session.  Works in seconds.

These are just a few....more to come.
