Using Google search effectively and efficiently

Using Google to search is pretty simple ... go to Google, type in a word or two and BOOM, you've got a gagillion hits.  But who needs a gagillion hits?  I want 3 to 5 that are precisely on target.

Making effective and efficient use of the Google search tool, now that's a whole other story.  And then there's the problem of authenticating the sources.  Who's credible, who's not.
