Buried in the story is an Ohio school district employing "blizzard bags", a code name for online learning, similar to the story I posted recently from a school in Taunton. The model of "Flipping the Classroom" seems to be gaining momentum, not simply for its pedagogical value, but also for pragmatic (and budgetary) reasons.
So just what does it mean to flip your classroom? It's more than just sending kids home to watch videos; it's a big shift in the instructional model; and it takes a lot of work up front to do it right. The infographic below gives an interesting perspective on just what flipping is.
For resources, ideas, and example units check out the Flipped Learning Network. Their mission is to provide educators with the knowledge, skills, and resources to successfully implement Flipped Learning. You can also scan their archived webinars which are quite informative.
There are resources available at many other sites, including Edutopia. Check out the article on the Pros & Cons of the flipped classroom and one on the Five best practices.
Finally, the video (above) is a recorded webinar - An Introduction to Flipped Learning - from Pearson Learning. Runtime is approx 2 hrs and includes Q&A with webinar participants. [If the embedded video fails, here's the link].
