EdLine
If you used your Edline class website last year and want to continue again, you may have noticed when you log in that all your old class materials seem to be missing! Don't panic, they're still all there, just in an archive. From the main navigation pane, select MY CONTENT and look for OLD COURSE MATERIALS. Here's link to a short article from the Edline Education Center (EEC) on Reusing Old Materials (includes a link to a video tutorial).
If you've not used EdLine, or only tinkered a bit with it, the link to the EdLine Website Guide (on the left navigation panel) contains a variety of useful links to tutorials and guides. Check out the EEC video tutorial library.
Remember, both student and parent have EdLine accounts, but only students can submit assignments or take tests. A lot of times students are logging in on the parent's account. Here's an explanation of how to investigate and fix the problem.
Using Google Documents with your class
Last year quite a number of people were using Google Docs with their classes, both to share content to the class and to have students share to you. Here's a quick refresher on sharing documents and one one setting up online assignments in Google Drive. If you're planning on using Google Docs, even occasionally, with your students it is a ton easier if you set up GROUPs (in your contacts) for for each class. Then when you want to share or send something, just use the group name.

PBS NewsHour
Recently the PBS NewsHour ran an interesting segment on the Mission Hill (Boston) public school and teacher engagement in school administration. The segment only runs about 7-1/2 minutes and is pretty interesting.
